From the moment we stepped into the Halfway Club we were met with nothing but friendly staff and wonderful aromas. Casale's is the best place for wonderful and comforting Italian cuisine. In addition, Paul the bartender, makes fantastic cocktails. A picon punch and Italian margarita started the night off. The picon, flavorful and strong. The Italian margarita was tasty and tangy. Both delicious The entrees were a "smallish" lasagna and a 1/2 spaghetti and meatballs with beef raviolis. The lasagna- cheesy, hot and full of great flavor. The 1/2 spaghetti and ravioli- fantastic sauce and plump raviolis. The salad and bread are also a great complement to the meal. Being Reno's oldest restaurant, the atmosphere is very clean and full of nostalgia. This is a small restaurant so reservations are highly recommended. Get there early and have a drink at the bar before dinner.
This restaurant has been a go to of mine for many years. The atmosphere makes you feel right at home with the lovely smells coming from the kitchen that will have you ordering more and more. My favorite dish here is the lasagna, but I've had other items on the menu and all are beyond amazing. Don't ever miss out on their garlic bread! It's mouth watering good! My favorite spot to sit, if in a small group (2) is the bar! Always great service and a good laugh.
Been in Reno for 23 yrs now and JUST had my first Casale's visit!!! It's a tiny place and there were 8 of us so we did call a day ahead for reservations. I kind of like that it hasn't been updated really.... Walls are covered in signatures and old photos and newspaper clippings. It's fun. Everyone there was SUPER friendly! The Italian margarita was excellent! Loved the house salad and garlic bread. I tried the lasagna... it was ok. It was so built up by friends that maybe my expectations were too high. It's not bad at all.. just not as great as I expected. I definitely want to go back and try the meatball sandwich!
This restaurant is very authentic with flavors and dishes. Soup is outstanding as well as the ravioli and sauces. We could eat spaghetti and ravioli everyday! Service was very good and employees friendly and efficient. Be sure to make a reservation. Inside is crowded (Standing room only while waiting for table) and kinda loud. Highly recommend and will go back.
Casale's is just such a classic. We brought some friends who had never been and they loved it--no surprise. The salad is very basic but I would say the better of the options between the salad and soup. You truly can't go wrong with the lasagna!
It's always great as a local to introduce someone to something you love. Castles Halfway Club is that little place. My husband has lived in Reno for 7 years now and I still (oops) have never taken him to Casales - until last weekend that is. I told him to trust me and that some things are not what they seem - and that is this place! The servers were amazing upon entering and so kind and asked us how long we've been in the area (my entire life to his 7) and how come we aren't there more often. Well - that is changing for sure! I love the cozy italian restaurant feel of the place. After getting engaged in Italy two years ago that same family restaurant feel is hard to come by - but not at Casales! it feels exactly like the small restaurants in Naples that feature a small yet strong menu. And then the food. Delicious. My husband loved his spaghetti and said that the sauce was better than his mom's! Which is absolutely insane because he thinks her spaghetti sauce is God-sent. Can't wait to bring that one up at Thanksgiving. I have always loved the spice that the sauce provides. We can't wait to go back the next time we are craving a bit of italian homemade pasta.
The best restaurant in Reno, and one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to. As soon as you walk in you get hit with the smell of the most amazing Italian cooking in the west. Courtney and the team provided seven star service, we'll be back for sure!
Excited to try this place. Its been here forreevverrrr. I had raviolis and meatballs. Super great flavor and quality. Server and bartender were a but weeded but they were rockstars. The vibe is classic and you can tell people take pride in their work. I can't wait to go back and try more!
Casale's has been on my list for a long time and we finally made it in this week! You know this place has to be good when it's far out of the way on E. 4th Street but is still fully booked on a random Wednesday night. We didn't expect them to be so busy but we lucked out with a spot at the bar without a wait! I love all the decor inside that makes it feel like you've stepped into someone's home. You technically have, because this used to be the original owner's house! The current bar area was the front room of her house where she started serving her homemade raviolis back in 1937. The tradition has stayed within the family ever since! All the staff are so friendly and welcome you in like family. As an Italian myself with great grandparents who immigrated here from Italy, I really appreciate the history of this place. You can taste the difference when a restaurant uses original family recipes that have been passed down through the years! Their menu is simple, they have perfected their regular items and don't need to offer a ton of variety. My husband started with a Peroni, an Italian beer. They have other fun Italian drinks like an Italian Margarita, made with amaretto instead of tequila. I got their 1/2 and 1/2 which is half spaghetti and half ravioli. They are most known for their raviolis, so you can't pass that up! They have beef or cheese, I chose ricotta cheese. The entrees all come with a side salad or soup. I went with the Minestrone soup. Everything I had was delicious! The spaghetti and ravioli were smothered in red sauce and Parmesan cheese. The raviolis were smaller than expected but that made them unique and they were still packed with flavor. They have nailed down the perfect sauce recipe to top it all off with. My husband got meatballs on his dish and they were some of the best I've had in a long time, very large and light without tasting too dense. We snagged their last slice of tiramisu for the night and I'm so glad we got to try it! The chocolate lava cake sounded good too but we had to go with the one that was close to selling out. It's no surprise this has been a staple for home-cooked Italian food in Reno for so many years! I'm excited to come back to try their lasagna and pizzas in the future. Even though it took me 5 years of living in Reno to make it here, I certainly plan on coming back soon!
As I love throwback-type restaurants in the flavor of Jane and Michael Stern's old "Road Food" publications, Casale's Halfway (between Reno and Sparks) has been on my "Biggest Little City" bucket list for some time. It's a red checker cloth old fashioned Italian place that I think is the oldest restaurant in Reno and Nevada. And despite it being around for like forever, at a recent Yelp Elite sit down event, no one at my table had ever heard of this place! Casale's Halfway Club is located along the old US 40/Business 80 and is a little out-of-the way and directions challenging to get here. The building has outlasted its neighborhood over the years, so people who come here either know where it is and come often, or like us were curious enough to make the trip. This is a family run business and deserves our support. If you're a serious foodie, Casale's might not reach the top Yelp star rating or even one from Michelin. But when you put it all together: Solid Italian food from family recipes, the history, fascinating old school cozy (including a juke box) interior, friendly service, and a good working bar, this place is stellar. Gayle was a little wary when I suggested we come here, but mere seconds after sitting down in a corner both, her smile said it all. The only thing we were wary of were all the carbs we would be consuming, but with any nutritional splurge, we were thankful for our continual exercise regimen and the fact that dinner turned out to be more of a snack. We even ordered half portions, beef ravioli for me and ravioli/spaghetti (with meatball) for Gayle. On top of that was garlic bread for the table, plus minestrone and red wine for her and a salad and local draft beer for me. It was all delicious and just enough food to be comfortable full. We both thought our tab was very reasonable. My vinaigrette-enhanced salad was a particular pleasant surprise as this is the kind of place where you don't see anything green very often. This is also the kind of place where we can't just eat here once. As we live in Genoa, coming back has a significant planning component, maybe in association with shopping, meeting up with friends, or just before a Reno Aces game. And we will!
